The principal design of these machines was so influenced by purpose, stress and the related mathematics, that it was much like the parts had a Fibonacci sequence of their own.  There is a mathematical beauty to the response curve of material, function and stress.

In the composition, it was of concern to isolate the imagery enough that this Fibonacci-like sequence became evident. Add to that, this series’ influence from the B&W industrial photography from the thirties, as well as the pictorialists’ influence of imperfectly ground lenses put in place selectively, so as to guide the eye through the visual narrative.

Finally, these images have also been manipulated to emulate my silver-gelatin work with selenium toning, achieving a duotone quality.
